Caring for your bedding

Looking after your bedding properly helps it last longer, so you can get maximum enjoyment from it for years to come. That’s better for you, your bank balance and the planet. The most sustainable choice it to keep using what you’ve got rather than replacing old items that have worn out. To keep your bedding in top condition for as long as possible, it just needs a bit of TLC.

WASHING FREQUENCY

Less is best

As our Tencel sheets are naturally hypoallergic and wick away moisture, they inhibit the collection and growth of dust and mites. And because they also help you regulate temperature while you sleep, they are less likely to attract odours.

These properties mean that you should find you need to wash our bedding less than traditional polyester or cotton sets. Washing bedding less frequently is less work and better for the environment as it means that you will use less energy, water and chemicals.

We recommend that you wash your pillowcases more often than your sheets, so it’s a good idea to have a spare pillowcase set.

Cleanliness is deeply personal so find a rhythm that suits you best. Whatever your outlook, we know doing the laundry can be a time consuming, tedious task, so having to do a bit less washing should be good news all around.

WASHING TEMPERATURE

A cooler way to wash

When you do wash your bedding, we recommend washing it on a 30°C gentle cycle using a plant-based laundry detergent. If plant-based options aren’t available then we’d recommend using non-bio detergents and avoiding fabric softeners, as they contain common allergens. Never use bleach as it’s too harsh and damages the fibres.

It’s old-school to think that bedding has to be washed in hot water to become clean. New technology in laundry detergents means it’s easy to clean textiles in lower temperatures. Washing in high heat not only uses more energy, it also breaks down the natural fibres in textiles, causing them to become damaged and therefore not last as long. It’s cool to wash cooler.

DRYING TIPS

Mother (Nature) knows best

When you’re drying your bedding, we recommend air drying. Air drying is better for the material and saves energy, lowering the carbon footprint of your bedding. If you prefer the tumble dryer, use a low heat setting and remove your bedding as soon as the cycle has finished or slightly before. Wool dryer balls are a good way to speed up the drying process.

IRONING

Flat whites

We prefer the lived-in look and a few natural creases but if you find that you need to get the iron out, again choose a low heat and iron inside out.
