Sustainability

Being sustainable runs everything we do, and takes priority over convenience every time. We want to be fully transparent about how we do business, and how we make sure the planet always has a seat at the table. We feel it’s our duty to share how we’re becoming sustainability leaders and pioneers in the homeware space - the planet is our ultimate home after all.

Our sustainability strategy

STRATEGY 01

Being the change

From the very first day we incorporated, we built B-corp terminology into our company articles.

Being a B-Corp is something we 100% believe in. It’s a system that ensures we make a legal commitment to make decisions that put people and the planet above profit. As a new business, we are B-Corp pending and will give regular updates on our way to achieving full B-Corp status.

We are members of 1% for the Planet. Members donate 1% of all sales revenue to address some of the most serious environmental issues we face. As it is linked to our sales and not profits, there is no wiggling out of it. We like this; it’s a planet tax that keeps us true to our values.

We are also proud to be endorsed by our friends at Canopey for being a brand recognised for its sustainability and ethics.

STRATEGY 02

Making things that last in a circular system

“Buy less, buy better, make it last” and “Re-use, Repair, Recycle” are mantras we live by.

We want our products to last for as long as possible. We ensure they do by making them the highest quality possible and giving you all the information you need to care for them.

If your products do split a seam or drop a button, we will help patch them up. We don’t want you to throw good stuff away because of a bit of wear and tear.

While nothing lasts forever, some things do have a tendency to keep coming back. When you’ve finished with your bedding, drop us a line and we’ll arrange to collect it from you so it can be taken back to Lenzing and turned back into new fibres, ready for the whole cycle to start again. We have limited resources on this planet, which is why they need to be treasured and used as sparingly as possible.

This principle is why we always use recycled cotton, recycled wooden buttons and recycled elastic in our fitted sheets.

STRATEGY 03

Cutting down on carbon, water and energy (and compensating for what we use)

We hate waste. Waste water, pollutants and inefficient processes are doing untold damage to the planet, and they could pose a huge risk to our future.

We use materials like Tencel because they use dramatically less water to produce, they don’t need a cocktail of harmful pesticides to grow and have they super-efficient production processes.

We don’t stop there. By using recycled materials and going the extra mile by doing things like turning our cut-offs into packaging, we are limiting how much we produce and doing all we can to reduce the impact we have on the planet.

Even though we’re super efficient, we still have a carbon footprint.

Our entire supply chain is mapped to understand what our carbon footprint is (we use a brilliant consultancy to do this called Green Element). Once we know what our full year footprint is , we commit to offsetting the carbon, making us a completely carbon neutral business.

Note: We believe offsetting is a temporary measure. The priority for every business is reducing the actual carbon emissions of the products they make. However, the latest urgent call from the IPCCC is that all actions that can be taken must be taken including offsetting. We’ll continue to work on our supply chain - supporting regenerative farming, efficient production and carbon-free transport to drive greenhouse gases out of our products. Our ultimate aim is to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2040, in line with the Paris Agreement. We know we can do it.
